5 things to do before class begin



     Hello, future Nobel Prize winners! Welcome to Mira Costa Community College. Mira means see in Spanish and Costa means costal. Our school is located next to the world-famous Oceanside. Every student, professor, and staff will welcome you. Please take a moment to read this before you go to school. This is a document written by the experience of the seniors. I’m sure it will help you a lot!

1. Follow our parking advice

-     Getting a parking permit in Mira Costa college is very necessary. Mira Costa College offers parking system for students, staff, and visitor. A student who has a car should purchase parking permit every semester. Parking permits cost $35 in spring and fall and $17.5 in the summer semester. The student may fees online via SURF or offline via student accounts office after that, you will get a permit at the student accounts office.



-     Mira Costa College has a big parking lot, however, students must arrive at least 10 to 15minutes before the class. You may be late for class while looking for a parking space.



-     Personal recommends

1.  Are you late for school?

Please use OC-1A and OC-2A.   This lots are always empty.

2.  Are you new student?

- You must arrive at least 1hour before the class at the beginning week of the semester.



Using school website is very helpful for understanding about parking regulations.



2. Get your student card

-     Getting student card is a necessary thing in college. With student card, you don’t need to bring a passport and you can get a discount price in another place.




-     If you want to have a student card, you should go to cashier center which is located in N.3200 building to pay the money. It will cost $6.Then the teacher will give you a paper that means you pay for it. Next, you can hold this paper and go to N.3400 building. You will find the front desk and give the paper to the people. They will ask you to take a photo and you will get a student card in a few minutes.



3. Use a map to find your classrooms

-     Using the school map on the school website can find your classroom easily. One tip I give you is that to try to find the fountain area and then the classrooms connect with it.




-     Participating in international student orientation is really helpful for your school life. A peer leader and the Institute for International Perspectives (IIP)’s staff will tell you about the school facilities where it is.



4. Choose your major

-     Having a major that fitting you is an important decision. Before you start your college, you have to talk with your family which major you want to choose. Or you can combine family and counselor’s advice to decide which major you want to study. You can ask international office and peer leader for information.

-      

-   Choosing major is one of the biggest decision in your life. It depends on what kind of job that you want to have in the future.







5. Enroll the lesson

-    Picking the lesson that you need are very important for your semester. After you choose your major, you need to enroll your class before you start your college.




-    Going to international office to ask for a book that can help you to select class. With the book, you can find the class number and the day you will take. Then you need to log in college website and to find self-services. Clinking it and you will see the enrollment class. You need to put the class number in and choose which time you want to take class.



-    Paying the payment as soon as possible. After you decide which class you want to take, you should pay the payment.



-    Personal advice. Being quick to finish select class. Otherwise, you will miss your class. Because there are many students enroll their class and you will in the waiting list if you enroll your class late.
